frodo, our crested gecko

Frodo joined our family in July 2022, and he’s been stealing hearts ever since!

He’s usually happy to be handled for his health checks, though sometimes he gives a little jump — just to keep us on our toes! Frodo is a gentle, friendly gecko and a firm favourite with everyone who meets him.

Crested Geckos like Frodo are arboreal, which means they love living high up in the trees. Because he’s nocturnal, Frodo spends most of the day snoozing in his cosy green magnetic cottage. But once the clock hits around 9:00 pm — it’s adventure time! That’s when he comes out to hunt, explore, and show off his climbing skills.

Fired Up

Crested geckos can subtly change colour – referred to as ‘firing up’, where their darker colours deepen and their lighter colours become lighter, giving a sharp contrast. This process is thought to be to do with excitement.

Conservation Status
Least Concern

Leopard geckos are not considered endangered. They are listed as “Least Concern” due to their wide distribution in their native habitats across parts of Afghanistan, India, Iran, Nepal, and Pakistan, and their ability to adapt to various environments.

Additionally, leopard geckos are commonly bred in captivity, which further reduces pressure on wild populations.
